Yet Another Test

After Jim and Ed Hand did it, I jumped on the bandwagon. I’m kind of surprised it called me an “economic liberal” to the degree it did; I didn’t think I answered that strongly in that direction. Ah well. At least I’m snuggled up cozily against Gandhi’s shoulder. And Hillary and Bono. Seriously, Hillary Clinton is that liberal? And she still hasn’t come out against the war? Hrumph.

You are a

  1. I’ve gotta assume then that you agree with this slogan: “from each according to his ability, to each according to his need.”?

So does this mean that I can get that character sketch for free, given that I have need and you have ability? :)

  2. That slogan is usually meant to imply a central authority forces the people with ability to give it up, and hands it over to people with the need, which I don’t like, but obviously that doesn’t apply in this case.

Yes, I would do a character sketch for you for free, if you asked for it. :)

  3. I’m curious how you can be a socialist without liking the idea of a central authority to force the transfer of wealth. Do you disagree with the force part, or the central authority part? If you prefer democratic socialism to authoritarian socialism, why?

  4. I prefer democracy to authoritarianism. :) I suspect that a really good socialism would probably have to innovate something better than democracy as we know it; I’ve heard of something called “sociocracy” which seems “more democratic than democracy” and would be a good choice of government.

BTW, I didn’t call myself a socialist, the test called me one. Maybe it didn’t ask the right questions to differentiate me from a classic Statist, authoritarian socialist. :)

I’m a socialist in that I think it is valuable for groups of people to take care of their weaker and more vulnerable members, and that includes nations, and that if we’re gonna have a national government, that’s a good use to put it to.

A better use than killing and hurting people. :)
