New Wifi Haven

It’s egregiously nonfree, but I have a feeling that with my employment being what it is I will easily get my money’s worth for a $20 monthly subscription to Freedomlink so that I can get online at Barnes & Noble’s.

The ones on 28th street and at Rivertown Mall now have wifi.

I think I’m gonna become what they call a “regular.”

Pretend There Is No Duck

The following quote and response are from a mailing list I’m on with a few friends, published with no permission whatsoever.

I suppose Ed does not always want to be the
uber-liberal on the list. Perhaps this is why he
hasn’t posted here about voting irregularites
vis-a-vis exit polls.

Do you think the Democrats perpetrated a wide-spread
conspiracy to rig the exit polls? I do.

This has been preying on my mind lately. We have the scenario that you would expect in the case of massive fraud by vote machine manufacturers:

  • Major manufacturers of voting machines and vote-counting machines tight with right wing politicians

  • Strange Republican upsets follow everywhere their machines go

  • Paper trails difficult or impossible to get

  • The huge Republican upsets were not successfully predicted by pollsters and tend to accompany discrepancies in exit polls

  • Democrats and other liberals blame themselves and vow to do better next time and learn to be nicer to the people who don’t like them, because that’s what liberals do. Cigarette smoking man snickers quietly to himself cause the liberals are so predictable.

It’s quite possible that America is no longer a democracy except in the sense that Iraq was a “democracy” because you were allowed to vote for Saddam Hussein.

OK, this isn’t a Cigarette Smoking Man style plot, because he would have found a way to rig the polls too….

I’m not saying this happened, I’m saying that it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, and if it ain’t a duck I’d like to see some evidence for the non-duckitude.

The story is that this election was swung by “evangelical voters” voting on “moral issues,” but why would those people not show up in polls? If anything, it appears polls have tended to over-represent Republicans, not under-represent them (Gallup tended to “normalize” the data to show a huge Republican spike disproportionate to actual Republicans in the population — perhaps in response to past Diebold chicanery?).

I mean, yeah, maybe that’s what happened, I’m just wondering why it looks so much like a rigged election if it’s not.

Nader/Camejo Challenge Electronic Voting Results in New Hampshire

Nader/Camejo Challenge Electronic Voting Results in New Hampshire — Main Story Archive – Nader for President 2004 – www.votenader.org

To The Secretary of State of New Hampshire:

The Nader/Camejo campaign requests a hand recount of the ballots in the presidential election in New Hampshire. Numerous voting rights activists have requested that we seek a recount of this vote.

We have received reports of irregularities in the vote reported on the AccuVote Diebold Machines in comparison to exit polls and trends in voting in New Hampshire. These irregularities favor President George W. Bush by 5% to 15% over what was expected. Problems in these electronic voting machines and optical scanners are being reported in machines in a variety of states.

We are requesting that the state undertake this recount or a statistically significant sample audit of these vote counts.

We would like to make sure every vote counts and is counted accurately.

If you voted for Bush, didn’t vote, or voted no on gay marriage, I hope you get drafted.
I hope they stick you in my unit, and you go with me to Iraq when my unit goes back in September. I will laugh when you see what soldiers in that country face on a daily basis. I hope you work with gay soldiers too. I did. One of them saved my life. Think he shouldn’t have the right to get married? Fuck you. He fought just as hard as I did and on most days, did his job better than me. Don’t tell me gays don’t have the same rights you do.

Think the war in Iraq is a good thing? I’ll donate my M-16 to you and you can go in my place.

Gateway to Sindarin: A Grammar of an Elvish Language from J. R. R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings

I’m proud to say I’ve met David Salo and corresponded with him on the net. He’s a brilliant scholar on many levels, and the finest linguist I know, barring perhaps a professor from my grad school days. His years of labor on this work are reminiscent of Tolkien’s own years of work on Middle-Earth before he published anything. This is so amazing. Rock on, David.
