Wir Tanzen Ado’ Hynkel

I’m the only person I know who really digs Laibach. (Joe introduced me to it, of course, so he is the Ur-Laibach fan, but I don’t know if he digs it quite so much these days as back around 1990 or so…) I keep trying to share it with people, and they keep hating it.

Besides their original stuff, Laibach has covered:

One of their more accessible and recent songs, is Tanz Mit Laibach, which as the title of this blog entry notes, calls out in its lyrics to the Charlie Chaplin film The Great Dictator…

So what’s not to like?

Yeah, I know. Next week I’ll get over it, and have an unhealthy obsession with some other weird artist… But Laibach will still be their own special kind of awesome.

Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Undead

Julian Marsh (Hoffman) is an out of work ladies man who lands a job directing a bizarre adaption of Hamlet. After casting his best friend (Lemche) and his ex-girlfriend (Aoki) in the show, Julian finds himself in the middle of a two thousand year old conspiracy that explains the connection between Shakespeare, the Holy Grail and some seriously sexy vampires. It turns out that the play was actually written by a master vampire named Theo Horace (Ventimiglia) and it’s up to Julian to recover the Grail in order to reverse the vampire’s curse… If only being undead wasn’t so much God-damned fun!

[From Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Undead]

Sweet. Now that Zombie is the New Vampire, Vampires have been freed from the heavy burden of hipness and can be part of a whimsical little film.

Iron Man vs. Mystic Supervillain From The Kingdom of Grand Rapids

I thought Brian at Again With The Comics was kidding when he wrote the following:

BLACK LAMA

The Black Lama was actually Prince Jerald of Earth-7511, who had taken over leadership of the kingdom of Grand Rapids after the previous leader had been exiled for unspecified indiscretions. The pressures of leadership were such that he retreated to the Marvel Universe for a break, where he promptly went insane and started pitting super villains against each other in an attempt to find a worthy successor to his throne. Prince Jerald was essentially Gerald Ford of Earth-7511, an alternate world where America was called the Kingdom of Grand Rapids, and the exiled king was Richard Nixon, and Baron Rockler, who later showed up to war with Jerald, was Nelson Rockefeller.

But no. It’s all true.

I agree that making him the main villain in Iron Man II would be the whip.

“Two under arrest for Kentwood comic book store shooting”

WZZM has the story, and mugshots.

Kentwood – Two teens were arraigned today on charges that they robbed and shot a Kentwood comic book store clerk.

Marvin Michael Jones, 19, and James Muriel Neal-Thompson, 18, were arrested last week, but information was not released until today because a third suspect is still being sought. An arrest warrant has been issued for Jevon Marquis Sawyer, 18, for the same crime.

Jones and Neal-Thompson have been both charged with robbery and assault with intent to commit murder. They are both in custody at the Kent County Jail.

So the question remains…. what the hell? :(
